Porsche 911 Targa 4

Porsche's 911 Targa 4 is essentially a Carrera 4 Coupe with a very unique all-glass roof. The roof provides an experience similar to a convertible without the complexity of a folding roof and with better protection from weather elements. Even when it's closed, the roof offers up the sky to the 911's occupants, unlike a convertible.

Like the entire 911 range, the Targa 4 was recently updated with a number of exterior improvements and a new engine. The 911 Targa 4 is powered by a new 3.6-liter flat-six engine, developing a maximum output of 345 horsepower for a top track speed of 176 mph.The new Targa 4 is available with Porsche's seven-speed PDK double-clutch automated manual gearbox. Offered as an alternative to the manual six-speed, the PDK features high speed shifts and superior fuel economy, all without a clutch pedal. The focal point of the Targa's updated interior is the new Porsche Communication Management 3.0 which features a touchscreen for simplified operation of the audio system as well as the optional hard-disk-drive navigation system. Other important additions to PCM 3.0 are the new options of XM satellite radio with XM NavTraffic capability, Bluetooth connectivity, iPod port, USB port and auxiliary jack. The exterior of the glass-roofed 911 was revised, with LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, and smaller fog lights.Power is routed to all four wheels with the rear two getting most of it. From five to 40 percent of power is shifted to the front wheels as conditions dictate. Typically the torque split is 65/35 from rear to front. In conjunction with Porsche Stability Management, the all-wheel-drive system has a secondary function as it helps to lessen stopping distances.Eighteen-inch cast alloy wheels fill in the Targa 4's fender wells.Fuel economy is rated at 18 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway for the manual transmission. The city figure improves by one mpg for the automatic, the highway is the same.Options on the Targa 4 include Porsche Active Suspension Management, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system, Sport Chrono Package Plus, bi-xenon headlights, stainless-steel exhaust pipes, self-dimming rearview mirrors, parking-assist sensors, navigation system, upgraded Bose stereo and more.
