Mazda 8 MPV Available Now In Indonesia

PT. Mazda Motor Indonesia (MMI) has introduce the newest Mazda MPV car as the company celebrated its 5 anniversary. The car dubbed Mazda 8 will be available to Indonesian car enthusiast by the middle of this year and will allow Mazda Indonesia top compete in MPV segment which currently they have none. Mazda 8 has already been available in other Asian market such as Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Mazda 8 comes in two types 2.3 Premium and 2.3 Deluxe without much different between them except for some options. The car is powered by 2.3 liter in line 4 cylinder 16 valves DOHC Valve Timing (SV-T) which electronically controls continuously varying intake valve timing according to engine speed and load and Variable Induction System (VIS) that adjusts the distance air travels through the intake manifold in accordance with engine speed. This has allows Mazda 8 to go from 0 to 100 speed for 13.3 seconds.

The body size is 4,860 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,685 tall which are more than capable of seating 8 people (three people in the further back seat) comfily. Mazda 8 curb weight is 1,780 kg and has an electronic controlled fuel supply injection with fuel tank capacity of 68.5 liter. The fuel consumption is 10.3 liter /km which is great from a luxury MPV.

Mazda 8 exterior, available only in automatic transmission, has the distinct five point grille with chrome plating just like the rest of the currently available Mazda line. The body line is more aggressive and does not give a short impression that plagues most luxury MPV available in Indonesia such as Honda Odyssey and Mitsubishi Grandis. Mazda 8 also has a switch and door handle operated power sliding doors on both sides providing wide space for easy access.

The interior pretty spacious with 3D blackout meters with light that gradually increases the blue toned meter graphics from the moment you open the door, reaching full illumination by the time you sit in the driver’s seat.

The driver’s seat is eight-way power adjustable, the second row seats offer 80mm of slide adjustment to maximize legroom. This is further enhance with large headrest with swing mechanism to support the head at three points and the seat cushion angle adjuster lets you raise the front of the cushion to prevent sliding forward when the seat is reclined. Third row seats are generously sized and cushioned to provide relaxing support. Space under the second row seats offers room to stretch your legs, and the reclining mechanism and large armrest add to comfort.

There is a large console in the middle for audio and automatic air conditioner as well as the gear shift. The three spokes wheel also has buttons for audio controls.

For safety a standard dual front airbags for driver and passenger are available, however, there is also front side airbags and curtain airbags covering all three rows of seats give extra protection against side impacts.

PT. Mazda Motor Indonesia has not published a price for Mazda 8 yet but if the Mazda 8 price in Malaysia can be any indication at all then it will cost around Rp 550 million.
